Alarm Clock Product Design

Design Sketching

In addition to designing graphic posters, apps, and book covers, I also enjoy illustrating. Through a design sketching course I took at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I gained experience in product design and illustrating. I practiced ideating, creating gestural drawings, sketching physical products, and sketching my own concepts.

For this project I chose an alarm clock to take apart, sketch, and think of new ways to turn it into something more accessible, functional, and unique.

Featured in the sketches are ideations of the alarm clock, different perspective views, and an expanded view which features the wires, motherboard, and other inner workings of the clock.

After sketching, exploring, and taking apart a physical product, I began sketching my own concepts and brought my ideas to life. One of my concepts is an alarm clock that includes 3 shapes that the user must place at the top of the clock in order to deactivate the alarm allowing the user to become more awake as they turn off the alarm. It’s playful and interactive and provides a thoughtful transition from sleep mode to feeling alert and awake.
